The Promise - My Review
Jul. 9th, 2016 10:21 pm**I received a free copy of this book for an honest review**
This is the first book that I've read by Robert Crais and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the thrill and the action and I LOVED everything about the K-9 units and I loved getting Maggie's point of view throughout the book.
Maggie and Jon are my favorite characters in the entire book. Jon, of course, because he doesn't pussy foot around and because he also doesn't take any bullshit from anyone and I like that.
Maggie is one of the best characters in this book, period. I don't care that she's a dog. Each time we got to her point of view and how much she loved Scott, it made me tear up a little and I just loved Maggie and Scott's affection for each other.
As for Mr. Rollins, the crooked cop, Carver and the rest of them, I didn't like them very much. Cole and Pike were decent enough characters, but I didn't like any of the rest of the characters.
The book was great, and I loved how everything came together in the end. I also liked that they were able to stop Amy from killing herself, and Eli and the other bad guys.
I liked that Amy and Jon bonded and I wish the book had been longer so we could have had lots of scenes with them.
Scott was a decent character, but I felt like he was too much of a wuss at times. Especially when Carter, Stiles, and everyone else was constantly bossing him around and treating him like a child.
He should have told all of them to kiss his ass and took a job elsewhere. Also, the fact that Hess was lying for most of the book about who she was, pissed me off. I don't find there's any excuse for her lying and that Scott should have kept her and Carter and the rest in the dark, when he and Cole found out important information.
The whole thing took a long time to sort through how all the bad guys knew each other, and even when the good guys figured it out, Mr. Rollins still got away, which I didn't like. He should've been spotted and killed immediately.
I love the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes crime books, or thrillers. I just kept hoping that Amy's son Jacob would actually turn out alive somehow, and that Mr. Rollins would get a cap blown in his ass, for all the bullshit he caused.
